Assistant Program Director, Student Publications (Finance)



Student Publications/Oracle is a department in Student Affairs led by the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Students. The mission of the 13 departments in Student Affairs is to provide a safe, inclusive environment for students to achieve their goals, explore their interests, find community, develop life-long skills, and build enduring connections to USF. Student Affairs is a division within Student Success which focused on supporting our students as they enter the admissions queue, take their first steps on our campuses, navigate their academic options, explore interests, receive a hard-earned diploma and, finally, launch their career. USF, located in Tampa, Florid is a member of the AAU and ranked among the top 50 public universities in the U.S.

The Assistant Program Director reports to the Associate Dean of Students and manages the Student Publications/Newspaper ( The Oracle ), a diverse and nationally recognized student publication. The Assistant Program director recruits, trains and develops student staff, advising them on editorial and business matters. He or she routinely assesses student products and provides robust feedback to participants. The Assistant Program Director is responsible for instructing students in industry-standard practices in writing/reporting, editing, photography, graphic design, social media and production.

The Assistant Program Director directly supervises the Executive Sales Administrator and the Student Editor in Chief. There are at least 11 student staff positions (reporters, editors and sales assistants).Minimum Qualifications:

This position requires a Bachelor's degree in a field directly related to the program responsibilities and three years of professional experience; or Master's degree and one year of professional experience.
Degree Equivalency Clause: Four years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree.

Preferred Qualifications:
\n
Masters Degree and two years working with in Mass Communications or Journalism at the college or professional level. Preferred candidate has at least two years as at the graduate or professional level working in mass communications/marketing, student newspaper, journals or publications at the college or professional level.

  • Advises the student editorial staff on best practices and legal 1st Amendment standards in journalism.

  • Oversees the operational aspects of producing the daily digital content and the weekly paper including developing and presenting T he Oracle 's budget in the annual A&S budget process.
  • \n
  • Assists the Associate Dean of Student in developing a review of The Oracle newspaper and designing a viable organizational and financial structure for the paper, which may include committee work.
  • \n
  • Supports the Human Resources processes for the Student Publications department.
  • \n
  • Supervises the Advertising Sales Executive position in the Student Publications department.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
