Manager Inpatient Nursing (RN) (Healthcare)



Position Summary
The Manager Inpatient Nursing assumes 24 hour accountability for optimal patient care, patient care standards, fiscal operations and systems that support patient care for assigned areas of responsibility. Serves as a mentor and leader to the inpatient staff. Communicates and exemplifies vision for interdisciplinary unit teams including coaching, mentoring, directing, supporting and teaching. Utilizes corporate strategic plans and policies as a framework to plan and deliver high quality patient care in a cost effective manner.

Essential Job Functions/Accountabilities
Ensures quality nursing care delivery in the clinical area based on the law, practice standards, accrediting body standards, the philosophies, policies and procedures for the Nursing Departments. Responsible for employee satisfaction to create a quality, customer oriented environment.

Responsible for the overall efficient operation of the unit and for the systems that indirectly supports the delivery of patient care on the unit. These responsibilities require effective communication, planning, collaboration and problem solving with mangers of other departments which service the unit.

Assumes QI activities in the Inpatient Departments, delegates as needed and coordinates with QI coordinator. Communicates all needs and necessary information with the Director Inpatient Services, CNO, Physicians and appropriate staff as needed. Serves as the inpatient nursing expert on multi-disciplinary committees.

Represent in-patient nursing on system-wide committees, workgroups and organizational initiatives. Assumes on-site supervision for specific units within Nursing.

These responsibilities include facilitation of patient flow, assurance of quality care, clinical and departmental problem-solving and communication with the administrator on-call when appropriate. Documents all changes in the communication log to update staff.

Directly involved with the selection, retention, promotion of staff.

Motivates staff to work as a team to optimize efficiencies in all aspects of patient care. Counsels and disciplines staff, as needed; plans monthly schedules and assigns daily duties to all inpatient staff.

Oversees the annual competency program for the inpatient staff-education.

Shares ideas for improvement/revision of policies and procedures which would enhance the work environment and overall operation of the Inpatient Unit.

All other duties not specifically assigned.

Position Requirements
Education: Graduate of a school of nursing. Bachelors of Science in Nursing preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience required. 3-5 years of demonstrated leadership and management experience required.

Technical Skills: N/A

Certifications/Licenses/Registrations: Current license to practice as Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio. BLS and ACLS required.
