Nursing Skills Lab and Simulation Coordinator - Marsha Fuerst School of Nursing - Las Vegas (Education)

POSITION SUMMARY

It is the belief of the faculty of the Marsha Fuerst School of Nursing (MFSON) that each team member should have defined responsibilities and that the MFSON accepts the responsibility of supporting its team members in the achievement of both departmental and individual professional goals.

The Nursing Skills Laboratory and Simulation Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and managing the ADN Program's skills laboratory and simulation center. The coordinator facilitates the effective and efficient operation of the lab, ensuring resources and supplies are provided to meet program and student needs. The coordinator also oversees the operation of high, medium, and low fidelity technology to ensure safe and effective use of the simulation equipment. The Nursing Skills and Laboratory Simulation Coordinator reports directly to the Dean of Nursing.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • 1. Serves as the resource person for faculty and students in any matters relating to the nursing lab or simulated clinical experiences.
  • 2. Monitors and schedules use, signing out, and movement of lab equipment.
  • 3. Coordinates and maintains the day-to-day operations of the nursing lab for use by all nursing students and nursing faculty. 
  • 4. Orients instructors in lab procedures, location and use of materials, and operation of equipment. 
  • 5. Prepares skills lab demonstrations and simulated learning activities in coordination with course instructors. 
  • 6. Provides resources in the skills and simulation lab for mastery of psychomotor and clinical reasoning skills.
  • 7. Works closely with faculty to plan teaching strategies that will increase the student's ability to meet clinical skills requirements.
  • 8. Manages laboratory set-up and clean-up for demonstration of clinical procedures and practice.
  • 9. Maintains the lab inventory, ensures the safe storage and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • 10. Monitors and assures appropriate standards of lab cleanliness, provides for equipment maintenance, repair, and replacement.
  • 11. Oversees simulation lab information and technology support.
  • 12. Works collaboratively with all faculty in scheduling the skills and simulation lab.
  • 13. Develops, presents, evaluates, and refines simulation experiences in collaboration with core nursing faculty.
  • 14. Utilizes simulation best practices to create a realistic and effective learning environment
  • 15. Implements clinical simulation to meet accreditation standards.
  • 16. Develops, implements, updates, and monitors simulation and skills lab policies, procedures, use and operation.
  • 17. Creates and maintains a respectful and professional working environment, incorporating active learning, reflective thinking, and a confidential debriefing process.
  • 18. Ensures a safe and healthy work environment, complies with college health and safety policies, practices, and programs in keeping with occupational health and safety legislation and regulation.
  • 19. Model professional standards, including customer service, collaboration, communication, excellence, and attendance
  • 20. Collaborates with faculty to provide skill remediation to students.
  • 21. Adhere to all college policies and procedures.
  • 22. Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Current, unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Nevada.

2. Bachelor's degree with a major in nursing, Master's degree with a major in nursing preferred.

3. Three years of experience as a registered nurse.
