Job Summary

Murphy Oil Corporation is seeking a self-driven and motivated professional to join the Digital Insights & Analytics team in the role of Commodity Solutions Business Analyst, helping to make an impact on the company by creating tools and analytics to deliver value throughout the Murphy organization. This role will support the development of comprehensive reporting tools that provide necessary data and dashboards to drive critical business results. In addition, this role will leverage data to identify improvement opportunities, influence leadership direction and provide valuable recommendations on future state data driven decisions, ranging from commodity lifecycle and risk management tools, to dashboard design, to employing machine learning models to analyze business performance.

The Digital Insights & Analytics team plays a critical role in driving the use of data to help solve key business problems within Supply Chain and Marketing functions. Serving as the process improvement & digital enablement arm of the Supply Chain and Marketing functions, the team facilitates discovery discussions to uncover business challenges, process inefficiencies or data gaps and works to develop solutions through the union of data and cutting-edge technologies.

The Commodity Solutions Business Analyst role will work in our Houston headquarters office and may work up to two (2) days a week remotely.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize existing knowledge of commodity trading technologies and deal lifecycles to develop tools & analytics to help provide process efficiencies
  • Work on highly complex problems requiring the creation of analytical tools, data analysis and providing recommendations/solutions to the problem; using system knowledge to drive decisions from data
  • Execute technology-enabled process and strategy improvement projects employing numerous technologies (Machine Learning, AI, RPA etc.) to optimize current processes and model potential future innovations
  • Facilitate meetings to identify, document, and prioritize business technology needs that align with department deliverables and organizational goals
  • Ensure a high degree of data quality and reporting accuracy, including implementing/overseeing standards and processes
  • Stay abreast of current trends/technologies in commodity management and be aware of technology initiatives from other best in class oil and gas operators and technology companies globally
  • Ability to prioritize, manage, and deliver multiple projects/tasks
  • Ability to synthesize, simplify, and standardize concepts/processes toward tangible results
  • Support collaboration with internal groups such as Accounting, Finance, and Compliance

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Energy, Business, Engineering, Data Analytics, or Technology related field
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience working with Oil and Gas Marketing and Trading teams
  • Previous experience with commodity trading risk management (CTRM) software, from both a functional and technical perspective
  • Deep knowledge of commodity deal lifecycles and the ability to translate functional requirements into technical capabilities
  • Experience in managing technical projects, including requirements gathering, current vs future state process comparison, technical delivery and documentation
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Relevant experience with Python development at an enterprise level
  • General exposure to SAP
  • Strong skills in both Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Excellent verbal communication and facilitation skills
  • Experience navigating data and analytics in a corporate setting

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 years of consulting experience related to Oil & Gas (preferably Marketing and Trading), Data Analytics, Data Architecture or relevant field
  • Microsoft Power Platform, Azure, SalesForce and/or UiPath experience a plus
  • Exposure to AI Agent frameworks (e.g. CrewAI, Langchain) a plus
  • Project Management experience using Azure DevOps

The individual is required to follow all applicable safety precautions. Work is performed almost entirely in a controlled (i.e., inside) environment and does not typically subject the incumbent to any hazardous/extreme elements; some positions may require regularly moving or transporting items weighing up to 25 lbs. around the office for various needs. The successful candidate must be able to complete all essential physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
