ABOUT THE ROLE

The Associate Fiber Splicer is an apprenticeship responsible for learning and assisting in the performance of all functions related to the splicing and testing of fiber optic cables. The position requires a high level of focus and attention to detail regarding safety, set-up, termination points, troubleshooting and other fiber splicing responsibilities. This position will be subject to on-call, shift duties, weekends, and holiday work rotations.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Work as part of a team to install and test end-to-end fiber optic networks
  • Work with fiber optic related test equipment, including optical-time domain reflector (OTDR), chromatic dispersion/polarization mode dispersion (CD/PMD), optical spectrum analyzer (OSA) and bit error rate (BER) test sets
  • Work as part of a team to perform site surveys to ensure quality installation of fiber cables, enclosures, handholes, etc.
  • Label and tag all equipment/cabling according to Network Engineering diagrams
  • Analyze and troubleshoot problems/issues in assistance to the Network Operations Center (NOC)
  • On-call duty rotations, including nights and weekends
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required and assigned
  • Complete, maintain, and provide redlines of work completed in the field to fiber engineers or update records directly
  • Interface with customers and carriers in support of service delivery and assurance
  • Work without guidance for extended periods
  • Respond to system-generated trouble tickets on a 24-hour basis

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED

Education Qualifications

  • H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Required
  • Associate's Degree (AA) Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • Experience with Outside Plant/Inside Plant installation, maintenance, and repair Preferred
  • Relevant military experience Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  • DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State and eligible to obtain a commercial driver's license for heavy vehicles or equipment operation (e.g., vehicle with bucket lift) Upon Hire Required

Where You Will Work

Field: This is a remote role (must be located in a commutable distance to ) which requires travel to customer and/or project sites with exposure to heavy equipment and environmental conditions over 90% of the time. There will also be work in a normal office setting with no exposure to adverse environmental conditions as little as 10% of the time. This position will be swing shift hours, possibly weekends and requires on call rotation involvement. There may be travel required away from the home location for extended periods of time.

Compensation

The pay range offered for this position is $27.50 - $37.79 per hour. A candidate's offer is determined by various factors including but not limited to, depth of experience, role-related knowledge and skills, relevant education or training, internal alignment, and work location. Depending on the position offered, the compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of a discretionary annual cash bonus or commissions, and equity incentives.
