Design Manager (Information Technology)
Essential Duties
Manage Your Team Effectively
- Know your team to make sure you are assigning jobs based on their strengths and supporting them in their weaknesses.
- Train your team, as applicable, in an efficient and effective manner
- Oversee the project management of projects assigned to your team and ensure items are being taken care of in an accurate, efficient, professional, and timely manner.
- Review the budgets of projects assigned to your team to quickly identify potential cost overruns so that proactive action can be taken, as well as to quickly identify and correct any errors that appear on reports.
- Submit billings for your projects proactively and on-time.
- Communicate with other Design Leads and the Overseer regarding your teams design load so that projects can be assigned, shifted, or assisted as needed to keep the design department running equally and efficiently.

Ensure Quality Fire Protection Designs are Produced. That means your team
- Confirms scope of work and uncovers/communicates anything that might have been overlooked
- Consistently produces quality and economical designs on time and without exceeding bid design hours
- Produces designs that implement the best practices and materials
- Thoroughly knows, understands, and applies fire protection codes and standards to assigned projects
- Produces designs, hydraulic/seismic calcs, and listings in a timely manner that are free from errors/omissions, compliant with applicable codes/specifications, and cognizant of field installation
- Coordinates the fire protection system layout with the building structure and other trades
Ensure Jobs are Properly Project Managed. That means your team
- Communicates with clients to learn design needs and design/construction deadlines
- Communicates often, and effectively, with all parties involved in a project
- Is always informed of changes (whether it be design changes or deadlines) and submits change orders for all changes to the original scope of the project that adds cost
- Project manages jobs from start to finish including meetings, preparing submittals, completing closeouts, and scanning/filing necessary documents, etc.
- Tracks and documents all items associated with the project.
Grow as a Professionals in the Trade
- Continue to seek knowledge in the trade and further your accomplishments
- Communicate with the field regarding designs and analyze budgets/costs to find where you can improve

- Lead by example
- Gladly offer instruction/help when asked for and pass down tricks of the trade to newer designers
- Strategize/utilize your time, every day, for maximum output
- Take 100% ownership of all aspects of every project
Use knowledge and experience to better the team and the company
- Assist clients with your knowledge to provide solutions and further business relationships/trust
- Use your rapport with clients to bring in more work
- Search for/create new, faster methods to assist with the design process
Qualifications
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with a track record of successful team coordination.
Proven experience in project management and fire sprinkler design is required.
Excellent project management skills, including budgeting and resource allocation.
Experience in a supervisory role is required.
Proficiency in Microsoft programs (Excel, Teams, Outlook, etc.).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with clients and team members.
Ability to work well under pressure, adapting to shifting schedules and priorities as needed.Valid DL Required
Safety/Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 25 lb.
Ability to work continuously while seated.Ability to participate in job walks and surveys.
Position requires occasional climbing, lifting, squatting, and pulling.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
A combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the minimum requirements.
Reports to: Company Officers
Pay Rate: $100,000 - $150,000 per year
Classification: Exempt, In Person, Full Time
Supervisory: Less than 10 employees.
