Credit Manager (Finance)

The Credit Manager key responsibilities include:

  • Manages a credit process function, including conducts the performance management process, identifies training and development needs, and establishes performance standards for the unit.

  • Determines staffing needs, makes hiring and firing decisions, handles salary administration, and ensures resources are available to accomplish priorities.

  • Participates in developing the business unit strategic plan and sets goals and priorities based on the direction set for the unit. Follows through to ensure objectives are met.

  • Develops unit budget and manages the expenses for the unit.

  • Provides leadership and guidance to staff, including fostering an environment which encourages employee participation, teamwork, and communication.

  • Oversees the review of commercial, personal, installment, and mortgage loans to ensure that they support the approved loan structure and conform with bank policy.

  • Oversees the audits of potential and current commercial loan client accounting systems and loan collateral to determine the client's collateral, value and quality, internal procedures, and effectiveness of controls.

  • Oversees the credit investigation and inquiry process for commercial clients and account officers.

  • Counsels lenders on specific loan situations and calls problem loans to their attention.

  • Advises senior credit and loan personnel on the company's overall lending policy, noting significant trends and recommending policy changes if necessary.

  • Maintains schedule of certain loans which are held for follow-up and re-examination and recommends appropriate action in problem loan situations.

  • Reviews the types of credit exposure, the quality of assets, and the risk parameters for the extension of credit.

  • Frequently interacts with partners in credit and banking and with senior management at affiliate offices to review audit and examination results.

  • Acts as a representative for the corporation during federal and state audits/examinations and provides required documentation and responses to questions on loan portfolios.

  • Keeps abreast of economic, political, and legislative factors that could affect the quality of loan portfolios.

The successful candidate will benefit from having:

  • Knowledge of credit analysis, commercial lending policies, procedures, loan documentation requirements, and applicable laws and regulations usually acquired through formal education.

  • Previous experience is required to audit and review loan documents and collateral.

  • Analytical skills are required to analyze risk of loan portfolios and report to management.

  • Leadership and organizational skills are required to determine the unit goals, resources needed, and to assess and develop the skills of the staff.

  • 6+ years of credit underwriting, commercial lending or collateral audit and loan documentation review experience.

Salary Range:
$114,700 - 194,900 USD

Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
