Job Description
Primary Function of Position

The Future Forward team is responsible for creating new products and technologies for Intuitive.

The Head of Advanced Product Development, Future Forward is responsible for leading the strategic planning, oversight, and execution of an advanced product development team within Future Forward at Intuitive. This is an exciting opportunity to supervise a technical team focused on developing new solutions to address significant unmet clinical needs.

Critical to the success of this role is experience leading cross functional teams to successfully develop market definition, clinical specification, and engineering development for new medical products, from inception to formal program launch.

The Head of Advanced Product Development, Future Forward will report to the Executive Vice President, Future Forward.

Essential Job Duties

  • Manage the design and development of a next generation product for Future Forward
  • Develop novel solutions that are deeply informed by unmet customer needs, advanced technology development and Intuitive's core technology
  • Develop and manage to the program critical path and budget, anticipating overruns and shortfalls, project/program cost tracking, and other program management administrative experience
  • Build and inspire a highly motivated team by attracting, hiring and developing top talent
  • Assess employee performance, provide coaching, and create opportunities for career growth
  • Maintain current awareness of industry developments and competitor activity in medical fields relevant to the team portfolio and report out to executives
  • Communicate effectively with staff, company executives, clinicians, product teams, process development, KOLs, and all operations functions
  • Build relationships across the company and focusing particularly with those that are close partners with product development
Qualifications
Core Competencies and Skill Requirements:
  • Minimum Bachelor's/Master's degree in an engineering or scientific discipline
  • 10+ years of experience in senior level product development positions in the medical device/healthcare industry and successful management in a high growth environment
  • Ability to formulate and communicate a long-term vision based on a thorough understanding of unmet customer needs, medical environment trends, technology trends, and opportunities
  • Proven leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to recruit, inspire and develop a diverse group of technical professionals
  • Effective program management, planning, budgeting, goal setting, decision making, negotiating and change management skills
  • Supervise by example, influence and work well in a cross functional team environment with ability to be a hands-on technical manager as needed
  • Responsibilities include managing to the department budget, anticipating overruns and shortfalls, project/program cost tracking and other technical management administrative experience
  • Excellent communication (written, verbal), presentation and documentation skills in English
  • Experience with Intellectual Property strategy, patent creation and application process a plus
  • 20% travel required / some International

Base Salary Range Region 1: $216,000 USD - $324,000 USD
Base Salary Range Region 2: $183,600 USD - $275,400 USD
