System Administrator II, Netcool (Information Technology)

ABOUT THE ROLE

The System Administrator II works as part of a cross-functional operations team to support Crown Castle's Tower monitoring system, Netcool. This role is pivotal in maintaining the reliability, security, and performance of our IBM Netcool Suite deployment. You will lead efforts in system administration, troubleshooting, and optimization, while collaborating with internal teams and vendor partners.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Administer and maintain IBM's Netcool Suite, including Object Servers, Gateways, Probes (SNMP, Syslog, TL1, Ping, NFMP, Message Bus), and WebGUI/DASH.
  • Implement software updates and new releases during scheduled change windows, adhering to change management protocols.
  • Monitor and resolve support tickets related to Netcool and associated systems.
  • Troubleshoot application and system issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Import SNMP MIBs and develop probe rules in accordance with Netcool Common Knowledge Library (CKL) standards.
  • Manage user access, permissions, and security controls across the Netcool environment.
  • Perform regular patching and system refreshes to maintain performance and security.
  • Oversee DNS configurations and updates relevant to Netcool operations.
  • Conduct system audits and ensure compliance with internal and external security standards.
  • Develop and maintain backup and recovery procedures for Netcool systems.
  • Create and manage WebGUI filters, views, and dashboards to enhance operational visibility.
  • Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot Netcool Impact policies to support event enrichment, correlation, and automation workflows.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to resolve issues and implement system enhancements.
  • Provide user training and ongoing support to end users.
  • Coordinate change control activities with Enterprise IT to ensure alignment and minimize operational risk.
  • Participate in incident response and root cause analysis for monitoring-related issues.
  • Support capacity planning by analyzing system usage trends and forecasting future resource needs.
  • Serve as a backup resource for Netcool-related responsibilities in collaboration with the Software Engineer.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED

Education Qualifications

  • H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, technology, engineering, or a related technical discipline preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional level technical/industry experience required
  • 3+ years of experience in Netcool administration
  • Experience with WebGUI/DASH, including dashboard and filter creation.
  • Familiarity with Impact Policies (preferred).
  • Proficiency in Linux system administration (RedHat/CentOS).
  • Solid understanding of network protocols, SNMP, JSON, and API integration.
  • Experience writing probe rules and managing monitoring configurations.

Where You Will Work

Hybrid: This role falls into our hybrid work model, which is 2-days work from home (Monday and Friday) and 3-days in the office (Tuesday through Thursday) to optimize collaboration, relationship building and key stakeholder engagement and may require some travel as needed.

Compensation
The salary range offered for this position is $74,100 - $101,900 annually. A candidate's offer is determined by various factors including but not limited to, depth of experience, role-related knowledge and skills, relevant education or training, internal alignment, and work location. Depending on the position offered, the compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of a discretionary annual cash bonus or commissions, and equity incentives.
