Packaging and Quality Assurance Engineer (Information Technology)



The Packaging and Quality Assurance Engineer will support application packaging, testing, and quality assurance for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Application Packaging for Windows Client Operating System initiative. This position will be responsible for creating, validating, and troubleshooting packaged applications, ensuring they meet VA enterprise requirements for functionality, performance, security, and compatibility. This role will work closely with the Lead Packaging Engineer, security analysts, and deployment teams to deliver high-quality, compliant application packages.

This is an onsite position with work to be performed at VA facilities located in Albany, New York.

Position Responsibilities:

Serves as a primary Point of Contact (POC) for all intake items (approximately 900 per year), managing the workflow from initial request to production deployment readiness.Create, test, and complete an average of 10 application packages per week using Admin Studio, adhering to a five-business-day turnaround for standard requests and one-business-day for emergency requests. Build and customize application installers (MSI, EXE) and create required documentation using VA DDE templates. Test each package on VA-provided, dedicated virtual and physical hardware located in the Albany, New York lab to verify compatibility and resolve issues. Execute functional, compatibility, and regression testing of packaged applications to verify stability and performance against VA standards. Use the VAs instance of Microsoft Power Apps, SharePoint, and ServiceNow for tracking and reporting status on all intake and packaging activities. Troubleshoot packaging issues, defects, and compatibility problems; provide timely resolution and retesting. Document packaging steps, test results, and deployment readiness in accordance with VA guidelines. Collaborate with security analysts to verify packages meet vulnerability, compliance, and baseline requirements. Provide assistance to VA staff during field testing by answering questions and resolving issues with specific packages via email, instant messaging, or phone. Report progress, issues, and risks to the Lead Packaging and QA Engineer and attend daily Windows client engineering conference calls.
