Your Impact

Hearst's Enthusiast Group (Popular Mechanics, Runner's World, Bicycling, Biography.com and BestProducts.com) is looking for an Associate Features Editor to support Popular Mechanics' content across all content streams—with an emphasis on stories that engage our members and most loyal readers—while making an impact within and beyond our endemic communities.

The Associate Features Editor will combine the craft of storytelling, sound journalism principles, and best practices in science writing to pitch, edit, assign—and write—multiple short-form stories for the Popular Mechanics website each week.  The ideal candidate is an endlessly curious, prolific idea generator with the ability to think broadly and critically about scientific concepts. This role will report to the Deputy Features Editor.

  • Collaborate with the Deputy Features Editor to maintain a regular publishing cadence and content calendar.
  • Work within both digital and print CMS tools to produce and manage content.
  • Build and maintain relationships within relevant science and technology communities to source fresh ideas and contributors.
  • Work with writers, photographers, and other creators to deliver stories that reflect a diverse range of perspectives.
  • Occasionally support print production and other content verticals, including Apple News+.

What You'll Offer

  • 1–2 years of professional experience in editorial, journalism, or a comparable content environment (internships count).
  • A strong editorial instinct, particularly around science, technology, or engineering topics.
  • Ability to generate fresh, engaging story ideas aligned with audience interests.
  • Experience using data or audience insights to inform content decisions.
  • Comfort editing and giving thoughtful, constructive feedback.
  • Clear communication skills and a collaborative working style.
  • Adaptability and a willingness to take on new challenges in a constantly evolving media landscape.
  • Curiosity and a desire to make complex ideas understandable and interesting.
  • Experience with a CMS and familiarity with digital publishing tools is a plus.

NOTE: For consideration, resumes must be submitted in PDF format with a cover letter, salary requirements, and a link to a portfolio of work.
