Job Title: Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON)

Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) supports the Director of Nursing (DON) in planning, developing, and supervising nursing staff activities. This role contributes to the implementation of nursing services, objectives, policies, and procedures, ensuring high standards of resident care and compliance with regulatory requirements. The ADON may be required to provide direct resident care and serves as a backup to the DON, RN, and LVN staff.
Key Responsibilities

  • Staff Management
    • Assists the DON in recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluating nursing staff.
    • Participates in employee appraisals and disciplinary actions as needed.
    • Conducts staff meetings in the absence of the DON.
  • Clinical Oversight
    • Oversees daily clinical operations, including rounds and monitoring resident conditions.
    • Ensures resident safety, dignity, and respectful care.
    • Provides direct resident care as needed.
  • Resident & Family Relations
    • Acts as a liaison between residents, families, and physicians.
    • Supports open communication and resolution of concerns.
  • Operational Support
    • Collaborates with the DON to develop and evaluate nursing systems and practices.
    • Provides reports and recommendations to improve care delivery.
    • Assists in the design and delivery of ongoing in-service training for nursing staff.
  • Compliance & Confidentiality
    • Maintains knowledge of regulatory changes and ensures staff compliance.
    • Upholds resident and employee confidentiality at all times.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Assists in the overall supervision and management of the nursing department and staff, ensuring quality standards and regulatory compliance.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of nurse management experience, preferably in a long-term care setting.

Licensure & Certifications
  • Current RN license in good standing with the State Board of Nursing.
  • Must meet all continuing education and licensing requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with PointClickCare (PCC) preferred.
Skills and Abilities
  • Communication
    • Strong ability to read, write, and interpret business/professional documentation.
    • Capable of writing reports, correspondence, and procedural manuals.
    • Effective public speaking and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Mathematical & Reasoning
    • Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios.
    • Skilled in problem-solving and interpreting a variety of written and oral instructions.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to occasionally lift/move up to 25 pounds.
  • Prolonged periods of computer and desk work.
  • Frequent walking, standing, talking, and use of office equipment.
  • Occasional travel by car or plane may be required.
Work Environment
  • Typically a low to moderate noise level.
