Team Leader Avionics Installation (Finance)



Overview

We are seeking a full-time Avionics Installation Team Leader in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for being a working supervisor of a team responsible for the installation and conformity aspects of components and systems at the aircraft level.

Essential Functions

  • Assist the Manager of Avionics Installation in managing associates assigned to the installation team within the Aircraft Certification Group and in scheduling and allocating resources to support multiple aircraft installation efforts in a timely manner
  • Complete Avionics Installation activities as a working Team Lead
  • Continuously evaluate project status to determine which projects are lacking in resources or not meeting objectives and work with other Team Leads/Manager of Avionics Installation to reassign or reallocate to keep projects on plan
  • Direct avionics installation/repair efforts in support of Garmin project development and certification goals
  • Review and provide feedback on certification project proposals and participate in product development and certification planning efforts
  • Provide mentoring and training as needed to Avionics Technicians in order to provide initial training or to improve capabilities
  • Compliance with DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering OR a minimum of 4 years relevant experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to a 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Must possess and provide documentation of FAA Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic certificate or FAA Repairman Certificate
  • Must possess a minimum of 10 years experience installing commercial avionics systems relevant to Garmin's business needs
  • Must possess a minimum of 3 years experience installing avionics in a certification and development environment, similar to Garmin's certification environment
  • Must possess previous experience supervising groups in an aviation maintenance organization
  • Must possess demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the FAA conformity process
  • Must possess previous 2 years experience supporting aircraft flight test programs
  • Must demonstrate proficiency working with IBM PC and Microsoft Office Products
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be positive, detail/quality oriented, organized, analytical, team oriented and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and lead in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Must possess the ability to routinely bend, twist, and lift up to 50 lbs. and occasionally team lift up to 100 lbs. while using safe lifting techniques; pushing/pulling equipment up to 200 lbs.; standing and sitting for extended periods of time; kneeling, stooping, crouching, and crawling; climbing and utilizing ladders to connect cables and walking long distances throughout the facility; repetitive motion; tolerates products, materials and fumes associated with aircraft maintenance; tolerates working in confined spaces and heights above four feet
  • Tolerates working in extreme temperatures and noisy environments
Desired Qualifications
  • FAA Inspection Authorization
  • Previous experience managing FAA 14 CFR 145 Repair Station
  • Experience with flight control installations
  • Working relationship with the FAA
  • Pilot License
