JOB SUMMARY

This executive protection role provides for the safety and security of client executives by performing close protection and/or transportation assignments. The position, among other things, observes and reports activities and incidents, and may respond to unusual or emergency situations using appropriate escalation of force level up to and including armed response as dictated by the situation and protocol.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

In the event of uncertainty or lack of knowledge of company policies and procedures, employees are required to request clarification or explanations from superiors or authorized company representatives.

Core Duties Include:
  1. Anticipate needs and requirements to ensure the assigned executive is on time for all meetings and events. Communicate effectively and professionally with the assigned executive to gather information needed to plan, organize, and implement all security-related tasks.
  2. Provide safe and secure vehicle transportation to the assigned executive, including receiving and/or preparing appropriate documentation for the transportation of and/or pick-up of the executive, completing route planning/reconnaissance, and mobile security. Additional preparation includes using/consulting maps and/or navigation devices for desired routes, advising the executive of potential delays due to traffic or construction, and adjusting the route when possible to meet arrival time.
  3. Provide close protection and other security-related functions for the executive, as needed. Lead countersurveillance operations. Perform protective advance planning and threat/vulnerability assessments. Effectively manage the executive's and his or her family's/representative's requests against the need to ensure all safety and security precautions. Respond to emergencies and render immediate medical attention, as needed.
  4. May respond to unusual or emergency situations using the appropriate escalation of force level up to and including armed response following established protocol for the assignment and as dictated by the situation, by the company, and through required training and licensing; maintains proficiency in the use of all assigned protective equipment, restraint devices and weapons as required.
  5. Serve as liaison with internal and external customers, office staff, and the public.
  6. Coordinate vehicle records, maintenance logs, and daily activity reports.
  7. Communicates in a manner that is open, honest and responsive in all situations; provides information, to the extent authorized, regarding the assignment.
  8. Prepares logs or reports as required for the assignment; writes or types reports or enters information in a computer using standard grammar; inspects security control logs and takes action as required.
  9. Observes and reports incidents or suspicious activity to client representatives, company management, life/safety personnel or public safety authorities as appropriate for the circumstances and/or as required by the site.
  10. Responds to incidents of fire, medical emergency, bomb threat, flooding, water discharge, elevator emergency, hazardous materials, inclement weather, and other incidents or conditions following procedures established for the site, by the company, and/or through training or certification.
  11. Carries out specific tasks and duties of a similar nature and scope as required for the assignment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AT ENTRY

Additional qualifications may be specified and receive preference depending upon the nature of the position

Basic Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship preferred
  • Close Personal Protection License, North Carolina Department of Public Safety
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification;
  • Ability to acquire and maintain any other specific special clearances/access requirements.

Education/Experience
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D
  • A minimum of three (3) years of executive protection and security driving experience for a C-suite executive
  • Experience in physical security, military service, law enforcement or a related field, sufficient to meet the minimum requirements for state and local licensing and/or site standards as established by the company.
  • Ability to travel upwards of 130 days per year with no international travel restrictions
  • Completion of a recognized executive protection training course, including security driving
  • EMT or Paramedic certification preferred
  • Law Enforcement background, at least 3 years' experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree preferred

Background Prerequisites

Must undergo and meet company standards for background and reference checks, controlled substance testing, and behavioral selection survey, in addition to any mandatory licensing requirements

Competencies (as demonstrated through experience, training, and/or testing)

  • Must be able to meet and continue to meet any applicable state, county and municipal licensing requirements for Security Officers.
  • Must be able to meet and continue to meet any applicable state, county, and municipal licensing and permit requirements for armed security work and specific protective device and weapons qualifications.
  • Knowledge of security operations and procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to see, hear, speak, and write clearly in order to communicate with employees and clients, observe and report incidents, and direct others.
  • Ability to write routine correspondence, including logs and reports.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
  • Ability to be an effective team member.
  • Ability to maintain professional composure when dealing with unusual circumstances.
  • Courteous telephone manner.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in the external environment and organization.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to provide high-quality customer service.
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively at various social levels and across diverse cultures.
  • Required ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Basic skills in keyboarding, computer usage, and operating controls

WORKING CONDITIONS (Physical/Mental Demands)

With or without reasonable accommodation, requires the physical and mental capacity to perform effectively all essential functions. In addition to other demands, the demands of the job include:

  • Maintaining composure in dealing with authorities, executives, clients, staff and the public, occasionally under conditions of urgency and in pressure situations.
  • Exposure to stressful situations, such as challenging individuals who are in or approaching an unauthorized area.
  • Works in environments and under conditions that require carrying authorized weapons and ammunition, the use of protective gear and devices, and awareness of personal safety and the safety of others.
  • May be required to utilize rapid and effective judgment in responding to unusual or emergency situations using appropriate escalation of force level.
  • May be required to work overtime without advance notice.
  • Frequent sitting, standing and walking, which may be required for up to 8 hours per day and may involve climbing stairs and walking up inclines and on uneven terrain.
  • Occasional reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling.
  • Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 20 pounds and occasional lifting and/or moving up to 40 pounds.
  • Close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • May be required to use vehicle in the performance of duties. Vehicles are to include, but not be limited to, cars, trucks, electric carts, and bicycles.
  • On occasion, you may be required to perform stressful physical activity.
  • Depending upon the assignment may be exposed to inclement weather or be required to work in environments or under conditions that require the use of protective gear and devices and/or awareness of personal safety and safety of others.
  • May be exposed to or required to handle sensitive and confidential information.
