Job Description

This is an in-office position based out of Ent Credit Union Headquarters in Colorado Springs. This is not a remote eligible position.

The primary purpose of this position is to analyze and render a decision on direct consumer loans that are consistent with underwriting guidelines, loan policies and management direction. The Direct Underwriter will be responsible for documenting the loan file with the decision, recommend alternative solutions when viable, and providing financial education to members. The Direct Underwriter must maintain a solid understanding of the wide range of products including, but not limited to personal, secured, and home equity loans. The Direct Underwriter is also required to review system decisioned loan applications returning for 2nd Review due to dispute, clarification, stipulation review, or request to override the system decision. Additionally, the Direct Underwriter will be responsible for understanding and complying with financial and lending regulations. In this role, the Direct Underwriter will be responsible for daily loan review, to include, but not limited to, appraisal review, VOI, and loan deferment requests.

Essential Functions

  • Consumer Lending Underwriting Operations: Underwrite a full range of direct consumer loans including secured, unsecured, and home equity products. Verify and approve application documentation such as verification of income and property valuations. As applicable, interact with the Loan Officer to discuss loan options, procure additional information necessary to render a loan decision, and explain loan decisions. Recommend financial education and alternative solutions/products as applicable to improve the members financial quality of life. Analyze information, documents, and render a loan decision on loans returning for 2nd Review.
  • Ad Hoc Projects: To include but not limited to loan deferment requests, software testing, meeting facilitation, resources for other underwriters, or other special projects.
  • Bank Secrecy Act: Remains cognizant of and adheres to Ent policies and procedures, and regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act.

Qualifications

Minimum Formal Qualifications for this Position

  • Associate's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Statistics, or similar field of study
  • 3+ years' consumer lending experience, Required.
  • 1+ Years' underwriting experience, Preferred.
Technical or Specialized Knowledge/Skills:
  • Working knowledge of home equity lending / underwriting.
  • Strong command of all basic underwriting guidelines, policies, and procedures relating to consumer lending.
  • Experience in a centralized underwriting environment.
  • Basic knowledge of risk based lending.
  • Basic knowledge of mid / sub-prime lending.
  • Basic experience with financial counseling and coaching.
  • Working knowledge of documentation and regulatory paperwork related to direct lending.
  • Strong level of diplomacy and tact in dealing with Loan Officer/Member interactions.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong problem solving, analytical, and investigative skills.
  • Proficient with computer and basic software applications (Microsoft Word/Excel/Outlook etc.).

Additional Information

This is an in-office position based out of Ent Credit Union Headquarters in Colorado Springs. This is not a remote eligible position.

The pay range for this position is: $28.77 to $31.96 per Hour (S14)

Final compensation for this position will be determined by various factors such as relevant work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, certifications, and internal pay equity.

This position is eligible for our corporate bonus program based on company performance.
