Tooling Maintenance Manager (Finance)

WAVE is currently looking for a Tooling Maintenance Manager to join our team!

The Tooling Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading the tooling department in the support of the business operating plan, including a focus on quality, cost, delivery requirements and world-class performance in safety. This leader should be able to positively manage a diverse and skilled workforce by focusing on talent development and succession planning. Most importantly, this person must create a culture that embraces change and focuses on continuous improvements.

The Tooling Manager will work with cross-functional team members to implement continuous improvement tools using LEAN and SMED concepts, metrics, standard work practices, schedule adherence to commitments to support the operations, resource allocations and performance reporting. This position will develop key short-term performance goals, and partner with various resources to develop solutions to meet customer needs and improve internal processes to enhance the total customer experience and lower manufacturing costs.

KEY PROCESSES (Ownership/Participation):

  • Supports and demonstrates the WAVE Philosophy and Operating Principles in all activities.
  • Provides safety leadership using WAVE's 8-Step Safety Process to manage safety daily.
  • Serves as coach, developer, and trainer for the team.
  • Encourages self-motivation and self-awareness by administering fair and honest mid-year and annual performance reviews to each team member.
  • Work with the team to develop and maintain a work order system that gives the EE's clear targets and metrics to gauge their personal performance but also helps us identify our biggest areas for improvements in tooling cost and downtime reduction.
  • Drives Process Improvement, LEAN and SMED concepts. Assist the team in defining and revising Standard Work practices.
  • Assists in preparation of annual budget requests for tooling, prepares capital budget requests and submits for management approval.
  • Develop team members that earn opportunities for future growth and then support them along that path.
  • Develop action plans, in conjunction with employees, for performance improvement. Administers discipline where appropriate.
  • Manage the hourly Employee payroll duties (ADP).
  • Support our EE attendance policy and procedures through the disciplinary action plan for time missed.
  • Maintain the Aberdeen tooling inventory maintenance and purchasing processes in our BPCS system.
  • Lead the annual Physical Inventory event in November with the support of the plant controller.
  • Assist in interviewing potential applicants for all positions with WAVE. Assists HR in the selection process. Provides general departmental induction and works with HR to ensure proper on-boarding and training.

RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is responsible for safe and effective leadership of approximately (12) toolmakers and (2) roll tooling specialists in the Aberdeen WAVE facility. This position is also responsible for the application and continuous improvement of the tooling department to ensure the best support for the production, maintenance, and supply chain departments. Below is a guideline outlining the responsibilities, including but not limited to the following:

  • Facilitate Tool & Die Department shift changeover meetings from night to day shifts and day shifts to afternoon shifts, covering safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Encourage the team to practice Think, Plan, and Act for continuous improvement and efficiency.
  • Oversee predictive and preventive maintenance for press tooling, modules, and fixtures.
  • Supervise tool and die technicians, ensuring timely repairs.
  • Coordinate with suppliers for outsourced tooling work.
  • Provide guidelines for troubleshooting and solving tooling-related issues.
  • Ensure compliance with die safety and rebuild quality standards.
  • Manage monthly budgeting for tooling usage and parts ordering.
  • Purchase necessary tooling parts and supplies for tool room operations, working with WAVE Central Tooling (WCT).
  • Support the maintenance team on capital projects as needed, along with machining parts for equipment during breakdowns.
  • Support the corporate Tool & Die design team in tooling design changes, process improvements, and implement changes in the facility to optimize tooling performance.
  • Stretch Goal: Develop a strategy to maintain records of tooling usage, maintenance, and repair history.

ORGANIZATIONAL ALIGNMENT

  • The Tooling Manager reports directly to the Engineering and Capital Project Manager

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's Degree or 1-3 years related experience in supervisory/leadership roles preferred.
  • Tool and Die apprentice certification is a plus.
  • Functional experience in Tooling and Roll Forming required.
  • Roll forming experience preferred
  • Ability to multitask and pivot as needed to successfully work in a high-pressure, fast paced environment to meet customer demand
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, and Word)
