Lead Diesel Technician (Full-Time) (Maintenance)



JOB FUNCTION:
The Lead Diesel Technician is a member of the management team, assisting in overseeing and performing fleet maintenance operations. The Lead Diesel Technician is responsible for coordinating and leading truck and trailer mechanics, while maintaining a safe, efficient, goal-oriented department. This position will report to the Mechanic Shop Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain and continue to develop a high level of maintenance procedures to lessen fleet problemsOversee and coordinate the activities of all diesel and trailer mechanics across all shiftsConduct thorough inspections of trucks, trailers, and assigned equipmentUse diagnostic tools to identify mechanical and electrical problems, then repair or replace malfunctioning partsEnsure timely completion of maintenance tasksAssist the Mechanic Shop Manager in planning and scheduling maintenance activitiesTrain and educate mechanics on new equipment and techniquesAssist the Mechanic Shop Manager in maintaining inventory and ordering parts as neededBring any questions or concerns of mechanics to the Mechanic Shop ManagerAssist in adhering to safety procedures and regulationsFill in for the Mechanic Shop Manager when neededOther duties as assigned

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
A strong understanding of diesel engine operation, components, and repair techniques is essentialA strong understanding of trailer operation, components, and repair techniques is essential; including refrigeration unitsProficiency in using various tools and equipment for repairs, including power tools, hand tools, and specialized machineryProficiency in using diagnostic tools and interpreting test results to identify and troubleshoot problems.Strong communication, organizational and leadership skillsStrong problem-solving skillsBasic computer skillsHigh attention to detail and accuracyAbility to supervise and lead othersAbility to multi-task

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or G.E.D.10 years of experience in the industryCompletion of a diesel mechanic diploma or associates degree program preferredSome supervision experience preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Mechanics work on, under, or in vehicles for 6+ hours a dayComputer keyboard work sitting for up to 2 hours at a timeOccasional walking, bending, crawling, and climbingOften perform lifting, twisting, pushing, and pulling activities

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Exposure to moving mechanical parts, vehicles, oils, gases, and fumesOccasional exposure to extreme cold and hot temperaturesAir-conditioned officeHeated shop and officeOccasional moderate to loud truck shop noise
