Sr. Director, Global Commercial FP&A, Business Insights & Data Science (San Diego/Hybrid) (Finance)

Position Summary:
Reporting to the VP, Global Commercial & Marketing, you will own revenue analytics and all commercial finance processes and reviews leading to consolidation of global revenue being in the unique position to interact and see information from all the regions, you would be expected to bring the Global revenue story together, including risks and upsides. In addition, you will provide an independent view on Global revenue. You will lead and develop advanced analytic capabilities to provide deep revenue insights and accelerate commercial functions data-driven decision making.

With FP&A part of your team, you will lead the revenue budget, forecast and projection processes by working closely with regional and corporate teams. You will be expected to monitor progress to our revenue commitments and proactively share actions needed to fill any shortfalls. In addition to this you will provide direct business partnership support to Global Sales Ops, Commercial strategy and Investor Relations.

As Business Insights leader you will be focused on providing revenue related insights and analysis. You and your team will work closely with business partners to understand their business questions, perform data analysis to find answers, and translate the analysis into compelling insights for the leadership team. The successful candidate will drive the scale out and sustainability of the enterprise analytics environment, support forecasting and budget processes, as well as perform other business partnering and decision-support activities.

As a leader of Machine Learning and Advanced Analytics team in Finance you will be responsible for defining and executing next gen analytics strategy and roadmap. You and your team will deliver complex analytical solutions and evolve the analytics landscape from predictive to prescriptive analytics. You will also actively collaborate with the Finance, commercial, product management and Marketing teams to build business insights to enable strategic decision making using both structured and unstructured data. Your team will partner with data engineering teams and SMEs to build robust and scalable predictive models and help identify opportunities and risks within the business model. You will also be responsible for enhancing and managing the current predictive models that provide global sales forecast used by commercial organization, finance, and executive leadership teams to evaluate their bottoms up forecast.

You will be responsible to lead a team of finance, business insights, data science and machine learning professionals. You will have a successful record of building/managing teams that collaborate with business partners to understand business needs and provide required information and insights to enable informed decision making.

*This is a full-time role, Monday through Friday, with an expectation of 2- 3 in-office days per week and additional on-site presence as needed. The individual must reside in the San Diego area and be able to commute to our corporate offices. Relocation assistance is available and should be completed within a six (6) month period or a mutually agreed upon time.

Responsibilities:

  • Advance the commercial organization's maturity from hypothesis-driven analysis to predictive modeling and forward-looking insights to enable more customer-focused, value-added decisions.
  • Lead competitive, customer, industry, and peer benchmarking analyses to provide context-rich insights that inform business strategy and executive decision-making.
  • Partner with Commercial leadership to identify and evaluate revenue growth opportunities, integrating finance strategy with commercial objectives.
  • Support business and finance leaders in achieving both short- and long-term revenue goals by delivering actionable forecasts and scenario planning.
  • Identify emerging risks and opportunities and engage cross-functional leaders to assess impact and recommend course corrections.
  • Drive continuous improvements in revenue forecasting and budgeting processes to enhance accuracy, agility, and efficiency.
  • Deliver clear, compelling presentations to the CCO, CFO, and executive team that drive alignment and informed decision-making.
  • Lead and manage Quarterly Executive Business Reviews in partnership with regional and marketing leaders.
  • Support Investor Relations with insights and analytics for earnings releases, JP Morgan Conference, and Investor Day.
  • Direct the Data Science team to develop and operationalize predictive models that enhance business planning and financial strategy.
  • Apply advanced analytics, including diagnostic and statistical techniques, to address complex business questions and inform commercial priorities.
  • Oversee full lifecycle of machine learning model deployment, from design through feature engineering, training, evaluation, validation, and implementation.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and insights to elevate financial acumen across the global commercial organization.
  • Serve as an enterprise-wide leader by sponsoring and executing cross-functional strategic finance initiatives.

  • This role includes direct supervision of a team, with responsibility for performance management, coaching and development, workload prioritization, and day-to-day oversight. The position is also responsible for hiring, onboarding, and navigating people-related matters in alignment with company policies, values, and evolving workplace expectations.

Requirements:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 20 years of progressively responsible finance experience, with 12+ years of Management experience.
  • MBA or relevant advanced degree strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success leading multi-functional teams with enterprise-wide impact.
  • Strong background in FP&A with expertise in strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, and scenario modeling.
  • Proven track record of translating big data into business strategy through advanced analytics and predictive modeling.
  • Experience in deploying and scaling data science or machine learning models to support business outcomes.
  • Excellent executive presence with strong communication, storytelling, and influencing skills across all levels, including executive leadership and board-facing interactions.
  • Ability to distill complexity and deliver insights that drive strategic decisions in a dynamic, matrixed environment.
  • Demonstrated success in building, mentoring, and retaining high-performing teams.
  • Industry experience in life sciences, diagnostics, or healthcare preferred.
  • Strong grasp of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), financial reporting, and the implications of various business strategies on financial outcomes.
  • Strategic thinker with strong operational execution capabilities and a collaborative leadership style.
  • Location at the San Diego, CA Headquarters is required.

The estimated base salary range for the Sr. Director, Global Commercial FP&A, Business Insights & Data Science (San Diego/Hybrid) role based in the United States of America is: $201,100 - $301,700. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual's qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
