Fixed Asset Accountant (Finance)

Job Summary

The Fixed Asset Accountant will work with other property accountants and management on establishing and maintaining a project system framework and process that will improve visibility and reporting of capital spend. They will be the liaison between operations and finance when it comes to controlling capital spending against approved project budget. They will also collect data and report to various levels within the organization ranging from transactional information to consolidated financial data.

The Fixed Asset Accountant will work in our Houston Corporate office and may work two (2) days a week remotely, as business needs allow.

Responsibilities

  • Perform monthly accounting activities for financial close accurately and timely
  • Coordinate and maintain delegation of approval authorities within SAP and AFE Nexus
  • Prepare and record monthly capital expenditure accruals to ensure accurate financial reporting and alignment with project budgets and timelines
  • Analyze and interpret variances between actual expenditures and budgeted amounts, providing clear, insightful commentary to support financial decision-making and forecasting
  • Ensure compliance of all tasks with relevant accounting standards and Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) controls
  • Perform daily tasks (i.e. AFE/WBS creation within SAP, review project cost overages)
  • Generate reports for various stakeholders (insurance department, executive management and SEC reporting)
  • Maintain the project and fixed asset modules within SAP
  • Assist with internal and external audits
  • Build SAP super-user knowledge and system support
  • Handle special projects as assigned and trained
  • Help improve and document process across the AFE/ capital process
  • Maintain/enhance a robust control environment across the finance function
  • Influence standardized process across all functions

Licenses/ Certifications

CMA, CPA, or equivalent certification preferred

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum 6 years' experience in finance or property accounting
  • Working knowledge of Oil and Gas drilling, completion, and production activities
  • Proficient in SAP
  • Expert in MS Word, Power Point & Excel

The individual is required to follow all applicable safety precautions. Work is performed almost entirely in a controlled (i.e., inside) environment and does not typically subject the incumbent to any hazardous/extreme elements; some positions may require regularly moving or transporting items weighing up to 25 lbs. around the office for various needs. The successful candidate must be able to complete all essential physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in finance related or property accounting experience and/or Onshore/ Offshore property experience (Operated & Non-Operated).
  • Understanding of Sarbanes Oxley compliance documentation
  • Working knowledge of Oil and Gas drilling, completion, and production activities
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of the organizations
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and champion of change
  • Ability to adjust and quickly recognize and solve problems
