Lead Division Supervisor, Light Rail Transportation (Project Management)

This position is responsible for supervising non-represented Division Supervisors/Yard Masters and represented Light Rail Train Operators, managing an operator extra board, attendance tracking, conducting disciplinary hearings and dispositioning disciplinary actions that violate RTD Policies and procedures. This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to the rules and regulations of the RTD Drug and Alcohol Policy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Recruits staff to include interviewing, hiring, assigning work, training, coaching, and counseling to ensure consistent application of applicable regulations, Employee Guidelines, processes, and procedures.  Conducts performance reviews and holds employees accountable for the performance of their responsibilities.
  • Conducts on-the-job training for rail transportation personnel and coordinates, develops, revises, and administers qualifications, certifications, and re-certification testing of current and potential employees in accordance with federal regulations, state, local, and RTD policies & procedures.
  • Investigates, holds disciplinary hearings, dispositions hearing results, and reports infractions of RTD policies, rules and procedures in accordance with RTD and Collective Bargaining Agreement procedures. Oversees and conducts Train Operator voting of the Run Board system and annual vacation votes following RTD and Collective Bargaining Agreement procedures.
  • Tracks hours of service time of Train Operators for Payroll.
  • Oversees RTD Light Rail Yard Masters, rail yard staging, and movements for service staging and maintenance work.
  • Investigates customer complaints and concerns regarding Light Rail Transportation staff and provides resolution.
  • Develops train time cards for special events and closures.
  • Coordinates train operator relief with Division Supervisors during special events, delays or closures.
  • Records Daily Adjustment Sheets and inputs information into the appropriate software program.
  • Makes presentations to community groups on various rail topics.
  • Provides coverage for Manager, LRT Operations during absences.
  • Performs all job-related duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED. Associate degree in transportation, management or related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of experience as a full-time Train Operator/Train Engineer.
  • A minimum of two years of experience as a supervisor in the rail industry. Division Supervisor experience and experience in a union-represented environment is preferred.
  • Must posses a valid Colorado driver license with two years of driving history or the ability to obtain a Colorado driver license within 30 days of hire.
  • Must obtain a Light Rail Vehicle Operator certification. Class for certification must be started within 6 months of hire.
  • Proficiency in organizational operations and procedures.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to communicate effectively through verbal and written means.
  • Ability to use sound judgment.
  • Ability to manage time and workload effectively, including planning, organizing, and prioritizing with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work various shifts and locations.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those required by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodations

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk on even and uneven rocky terrain (ballasted track). 
  • The employee must be able to hear and respond promptly to instructions or questions transmitted over a radio system in a clear voice. 
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • The employee must be able to lift 50 lbs regularly and occasionally lift 75 lbs.

Pay Range:

$71,043.00 - $100,348.50 Annual
